Soulies of Milgarden — Short Film & Illustrated Book
In 2015, I worked as a colorist and background designer for the 12-minute animated short film Soulies of Milgarden, produced by animation veteran Milt Vallas and based on an original story by Allison Milgard. The film follows a young giraffe’s journey into an unknown world, offering a simple yet powerful message about tolerance and acceptance.
Our Los Angeles-based team included storyboard artist Erben Datablan, prop and layout artist Aaron Crippen, production assistant Bryce Marck, and myself as colorist, contributing to both backgrounds and character color design. We worked on Macs and Cintiqs, with Inspedia Studio (Malaysia) handling the animation production in Flash.
Following the film’s completion, I also adapted and illustrated a children’s book based on the same story, designing the layout and visual flow to capture the warmth and spirit of the film in print form.
