Elvira vs Robots
Project type
Mural
Date
2025
Location
Powerhouse - 1714 N. Highland Ave, Los Angeles, CA, 90028
This mural was created for the patio of Powerhouse, a historic neighborhood bar in Hollywood known for its retro character and its impressive wall of vintage VHS players. Among the most popular titles are "Elvira: Mistress of the Dark" (1988) and "RoboCop" (1987) — both key inspirations for this piece.
We’re living in strange times where artificial intelligence is increasingly taking over tasks once done by humans. Drawing from that theme, I wanted to explore the dynamic between humans and machines. Elvira (Cassandra Peterson), who also hosted "Elvira’s Movie Macabre", felt like the perfect figure to represent humanity in this “Humans vs. Robots” mural and to be the hostess of this wall.
All the robots featured come from classic films and TV shows. They’re painted in shades of black, white, and gray — contrasting with Elvira, who stands out vividly in full color.
