Hermon Signal Beautification Project – Utility Box Mural (2022)
Created for the Hermon Signal Beautification Project, this mural is located at Avenue 60 and Monterey Road. Inspired by the neighborhood’s history, nature, and architecture, the design celebrates Hermon’s unique balance between city life and the natural world.
Ravens, wild parrots, coyotes, and local plants like Jupiter’s Beard represent the area’s resilient ecosystem, while Art Deco–inspired bridges and the historic 110 Freeway nod to its urban landscape and deep connection to Los Angeles car culture.
Tying it all together is a dragon — a symbol of wisdom, protection, and community — inspired by the dragon from the old Dragon Pearl Restaurant that once stood on the same corner. Painted to wrap around both boxes, it connects Hermon’s past and present with a touch of playfulness and nostalgia.
